My life is enhanced by many different elements: exploring nature, hill-walking, cycling, music, writing, theatre, cinema, literature, travel, exciting new adventures – the list is endless. It is my unique experience of these elements and how they influence my thoughts, feelings, emotions and sensory responses that drives me to make my art.
When I paint, I am exploring and filtering these elements, translating how I experience the world into a new language – the language of my art. Consequently, I believe that neither my art nor my life needs to follow a fixed narrative path. And neither does yours.

We live in an information age where the answers to so many of our questions can easily be found beneath our fingertips. But my work will not provide you with all the answers. Instead, I want my paintings to unlock your imagination and your soul and lead you to venture out on your odyssey of discovery.

Exploring …
I am an explorer and starting a painting is like embarking on an adventure to discover something new.
I set out intuitively or with a loose theme, building up and responding to layers of paint, collage, texture, mark-making, patterns, shapes, lines and gestures.
Every layer is an important signpost that guides me towards the narrative depth I am searching for in my work.
Finding the way …
Sometimes I misread the directions and find myself either at a dead end, from where I must retrace my steps, or on an untrodden path that’s waiting to be explored.
I often feel vulnerable on this quest of discovery. I stumble over obstacles and tiptoe towards risky precipices.
This is when my art comes alive.
Getting back on track …
I know that if I trust my process, irrespective of the journey’s length and where it meanders, the painting eventually navigates away from the random and unpremeditated and towards cohesive ideas.
Arriving …
When I have arrived at the right balance of design and detail in my richly layered surfaces, combined with stimulating, imaginative and emotional expression, I know the work is complete.
Moving on …
Finished paintings are stages scattered along my creative path that map a passage through time.
Like brief stops, they provide the opportunity to rest and reflect before forging ahead to the next stage.
When I make art that is uniquely mine, I reveal my soul, express my true inner voice and discover
a little more of who I am as I progress along life’s path.
I am making seen what is unseen.
This is what I want to share with you.
